Chaz Bono Weight Loss Update: HE IS DOWN 60 LBS!

I’m excited to announce that we’re in the home stretch with Chaz Bono’s weight loss challenge. As you know, he started working with me in November on The Doctor’s TV Show and now, 5 months later, he is down 60 lbs in addition to some excellent improvements in his lab test results!

Chaz has lost an average of 10 lbs per month. He lost more in the beginning, of course, due to the fact that the diet I designed for him was anti-inflammatory and detoxifying.

After the main detoxification phase, he began losing FAT. It’s important in any weight loss plan to lose FAT, not just “Weight”. Preserving muscle mass is critical because it keeps your metabolism fired up.

Chaz’s 60 lb weight loss was fueled by eliminating grains, sugars, legumes, dairy and focusing on grass-fed meats, fresh vegetables, good healthy fats and some fruits. The worst offender, gluten, was eliminated immediately and then we moved on to other grains.

After watching the success of countless clients over the years, I can tell you that eliminating Gluten and Sugars is the foundation for a successful weight loss regimen. Gluten can be found in Barley, Rye, Oats , Wheat and Spelt. And most don’t realize that it causes inflammation in the majority of the population, as well as weight gain and bloating.

Dr. William Davis, who wrote the excellent book “Wheatbelly” also links eating wheat to overeating. Wheat is an appetite stimulant and has an opiate effect on the brain.

Chaz Bono’s 60 lb weight loss also incorporated MMA training and dancing.

 This is critical! 60 lbs is quite an accomplishment, no doubt, but changing your lifestyle to support your long-term health is key. Chaz has told me that he no longer has cravings, which is one of the wonderful benefits of eliminating grains and sugars from your diet.

  2. That’s amazing! I think you’re so right about sugar and gluten. I guess I’ve heard about Wheat Belly enough that I finally will have to read it!
    that drop in cholesterol is amazing!! and while eating meat! very interesting. We have friends who were just told their 5 year old daughter has high cholesterol. They eat well, so it must be genetic… but I’m sure they have no idea that meat is not a culprit.

    • Right Tree- healthy, organic, grass fed meats are needed for overall health and vitality-especially in a growing body!

    • Long-time follower of Dr. Davis here. Three years ago, I dumped wheat and went on a low-carb saturated fat fest for six months. My TC went from 135 to 140, my HDL from 42 to 57. TG didn’t change. (I also lost 20 pounds and a gaggle of health problems.) Your liver makes most of the cholesterol in your body; eat less cholesterol and it’ll make more–your body needs it for a variety of functions.

    I was interested to see you advertise that “gluten is found in ……Oats,……”. While one must take care in choosing Certified Gluten Free Oats, as often cross contamination can happen in the growing field, or a company’s processing units, oats do not contain gluten in the grain. This misconception has lead to a lot of confusion with people struggling to understand the gluten issue, and what to eat while making gradual changes. While one may choose, in the course of their diet changes, to eliminate all grains, while eating grains without gluten, oats can be a nutritious, and tasty choice. And while choosing any diet change for a healthier lifestyle, I feel it is important to make sure all the information given is true, clear, and correct. This allows each person to choose their course intelligently with full information.

    I have followed Chaz’s progress and congratulate him on his weight loss, improved health , and overall happy life now! Recently, he and his mother, Cher stood together for a photo to be taken for an interview, and Cher bragged about her son’s progress in weight loss and better health. She was so proud of him and wanted to let the world know she was behind him, cheering him on 100%!
    May he continue to make progress in his new lifestyle and eating changes.

    • Thank you Dr. Catie for your feedback regarding gluten in Oats. You are right, one must look for “gluten free oats” as oats are most often contaminated with wheat. When I am working individually, I tailor my programs to their specific medical needs. Most of my clients are advised to do grain free as they are suffering with insulin resistance and leptin resistance. The results are astounding.

      My goal is to help my clients eat less processed foods. I consider all grains processed and would prefer they eat vegetables, good healthy fats, clean proteins, some fruits and starchy carbs like sweet potatoes and various squashes. Not all of my clients go “grain free”-it all depends on their particular health issues and goals.
